Sometimes you have to be your own hero. When I run races, no matter the distance, I do so with “I Am My Hero” on my hand as a motivator and reminder.
Like to many people I know, I have lost friends and family to cancer and have many friends who fought the good fight and WON! The numbers are staggering when we look at how many people each year will be diagnosed with cancer.
One of two men and one of three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Sadly, it is easier to find someone who has been touched by cancer one way or another than it is to find someone who has not. VCU Massey Cancer Center is fighting to save lives and find a cure right here in Virginia. Approximately, 40,000 people run the Monument Ave 10K in Richmond, VA each year… that’s roughly the number of Virginians who will be diagnosed with cancer in one year. Massey Cancer Center treats nearly 14,000 patients from very city and county in Virginia each year REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY!
Massey’s mission is to take discoveries made in the lab and turn them into new treatments for patients through clinical trials all in Richmond, VA. Massey has a “Prestigious” designation from the National Cancer Institute. VCU Massey Cancer Center has the best care backed by research and clinical trials. The money raised by Team Massey for cancer research is not just for Virginia residents. The impact is global! Patients from all around the country and world go to Massey for treatments and clinical trials.
I am asking you to consider a donation to help Massey Cancer Center be able to continue its work and provide the best care possible to all cancer patients. Together we can find a cure so the children of the future can grow up in a world where cancer doesn’t win anymore.
This is how I choose to give back. What will you do to help make a difference in someone’s life… in your life. It doesn’t have to been helping to find a cure for cancer. I implore you to find something that tugs at your heart and get involved. Be an active part of the solution, not just a bystander.
